The UK has a new Aviation Minister following the Cabinet shake-up. He is Paul Maynard, MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys.
Mr Maynard’s full title is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport. His previous roles include at the Ministry of Justice, as a government whip and he was at the DfT from July 2016 to January 2018. He was elected Conservative MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys in May 2010.
Mr Maynard’s responsibilities include:
- Northern Powerhouse Rail
- East West Rail
- TransPennine route upgrade
- Aviation including Heathrow expansion.
One his website, Mr Maynard says, “One reason I am proud to represent Blackpool North & Cleveleys is because I have a passionate belief that what really matters in politics is not the shenanigans in the corridors of power, but rather the connection you make with the people you represent.”
He has cerebral palsy, about which he says, “It’s very mild, and doesn’t really affect how I live. It probably affects the way some people see me, and there will always be people who write you off because of it – but I’ve never let them stop me.”
