Two of Scotland’s light aviation airfields have been the subject of speculation over the past week, following press updates on their future.
Scone Airport, at Perth, may be restricted if plans to build 200 houses on the site go ahead. It wouldn’t mean the end of the airfield (not yet, at least), but would mean the closing of two of its three runways. Local politicians are calling it “commendable”, and say that “That bridge [a third Tay crossing, tied in with the new housing] is not only essential for the development of Scone Aerodrome, but the future development of Perth as a city.”

At the same time , there’s uncertainty over Dundee airport, where the council appears to have stalled in talks with the Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) which operates ten airports in Scotland.
Dundee currently currently has one commercial service – to London – and the question appears to revolve around whether it can get more.
The matter is currently with the Scottish Executive.
