C172 ditches off Isles of Scilly

Three ex-Fleet Air Arm pilots on their way to a reunion on the Isles of Scilly successfully ditched the Cessna 172 they were flying when it suffered an engine failure with about five miles to run.

The pilot, Bernard Maslin (79) and his two passengers Arthur Record and Denis Stanley, both 82 were picked up by a fishing boat within ten minutes.

They were then transferred to hospital by a Sea King Helicopter operating from RNAS Culdrose. Record and Stanley have now left hospital, but Maslin will be kept in overnight, although he is said to be ‘fine’.

Congratulations from all at Flyer on a fantastic job!
