Two PPL flying scholarships worth £12,000 each are on offer from the Nick Davidson Memorial Trust based at London Biggin Hill Airport.

Applications from young men and women between the age of 16 to 26 seeking a professional career in aviation are now invited by the trustees.

One scholarship is funded by the family of the late BA Captain Nick Davidson who died of cancer in 2012. Nick’s initial pilot training had been at Biggin Hill Airport.

The second scholarship is the Biggin Hill Airport Award, funded by the company that owns and manages the well-known south London airport.

The scholarships will provide training to EASA Private Pilot Licence (PPL) standard with 45 hours of flying and a ground school programme of nine specialist subjects, including Air Law and Navigation. All text books and equipment are included.

The 2019 flying scholarship scheme is also supported by Shipping & Airlines, Adams Aviation Supply Company, Pooley’s Flight Equipment and the Bamrah family who own Biggin Hill-based EFG Flying School.

Applicants must be capable of passing the CAA medical examination and to be available for interview before a selection board at Biggin Hill early next year.

To apply, provide an up-to-date CV and a letter setting out the reasons why he or she should be awarded a scholarship. Address the letter to Captain Gary Merchant, chairman of the selection board.

Applications can be e-mailed to [email protected] or sent by post to Melanie Courtney, Terminal Building, Biggin Hill Airport, Bromley TN16 3BH. Please mark the envelope ‘NDMFS’. Closing date for applications is Friday 30 November 2018.
