Super2 re-emerges at Sebring

Last weekend’s US Sport Aviation Expo at Sebring saw the re-emergence of an old favourite, which has its roots in the UK.

Around 30 ARV Super2s were built on the Isle of Wight before the company collapsed. After several ownership changes, the jigs, tooling and spare parts have been acquired by expatriate Englishman, Anthony Dawson who has formed Opus Aircraft in North Carolina. He is now starting to produce the Super2 to SLSA (Special Light Sport Aircraft) rules with an 80 hp Rotax 912A engine – and maybe this pretty little British-designed aircraft will at last achieve commercial success.

The aircraft is listed with a maximum cruise speed of 104 KTAS, a stall of 45 kt and a useful load of 441 lb. The estimated fuel consumption is 4.5 US gallons/hour, from 13.1 US gallon tanks.
