Stapleford launches PPL Plus course

Stapleford Flying Centre in Essex has launched a new course aimed at pilots who already have their PPL but who want to improve their flying skils.

Called ‘PPL +’, the course consists of five hours flying and eight hours ground briefing. It has been devised by CFI Keith Pogmore, and will be taught by him and fellow instructor Tony Glover.

“We want to give a new challenge to our club members with PPLs,” says Keith. The course is inspired by one which is run by driving instructors for improving the skills of drivers. It includes: circuit revision; constant aspect forced landing technique; maximum rate turns; handling an EFATO (engine failure after take off) and recovery from unusual attitudes and spinning in a Slingsby Firefly. The course, flown mainly in a PA 28 Warrior, is available now. The fee is £997.

Similar courses are run by a few other clubs in the country, but it’s good to see another club taking up the challenge of extending the usefulness of the PPL.
