RV-12 makes first flight

The Van’s website has announced that its brand new aircraft – the RV-12 – made its first flight towards the end of last week.

The aircraft was flown by Dick VanGrunsven (aka Van), designer and company head, who took it to about 2,000 ft and carried out some turns, slow flying and stalls before coming back to the ground. The company is remaining tight lipped about any results from the first flight, but they certainly seem happy enough with it.

The RV-12 is aiming to fit in the US Light Sport Aircraft category, is powered by a 100 hp Rotax and is aiming for a payload of 550 lb. The RV range is well established as one of the leading kitplane series in the States and the UK.
