Robinson hands over 3000th R44

Robinson Helicopters, based in California, yesterday handed over the keys to the 3,000th R44 to come off the production line.

Dealer Frank Leon of Segrave Aviation took the keys, and handed them on to real estate developer Chris Bond, who plans to use the red helicopter for showing properties to clients.

The four-seat R44 first went into production in 1993, as a stopgap between Robinson’s already successful R22 and the larger, more expensive, and more powerful four-seaters which were then available. There are now two variants of the R44 Raven I and II, with a number of speciality configurations: Police Helicopter, Newscopter, Clipper, and IFR Trainer.

The strategy worked: the R44 is now the best selling helicopter.
