Rallye aircraft to gather at Tarbes

Rallye aircraft

Nearly 3,300 Rallye aircraft were produced from 1959 to 1994, making it (probably) the most produced European light aircraft. There are still many around and a special gathering is being staged at Tarbes, France, where the aircraft were manufactured.

The event is organised by the Aéro-Club Léon Morane from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 September 2018 at Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées airport (Hautes Pyrénées, France).

The programme for the event includes visit to the industrial site, now Daher producing TBM turbine aircraft, a cross-country air rally with an overflight of the Pyrenees, and an aviators’ dinner highlighting the traditional food of southwest France.

The Rallye range began with the MS 880 with MS standing for Morane-Saulnier. That company became Socata, before becoming part of Daher.

The original concept of an easy-to-fly aircraft, with double-slotted flaps and automatic leading edge slats, led to multiple models up to a 235hp four-seater. Daher still supports the operational fleet, believed to be around 1,400 aircraft.

All types of MS 880 Rallye, including the Polish-made PZL Koliber, with fixed or variable pitch props, tricycle or tailwheel, skis and floats, tug planes or agricultural equipment are expected in Tarbes.
