PPL exams to shift online later this year

ATPL exams

The CAA has issued information about the new online PPL theoretical knowledge exams due to come into operation later this year across the EASA states.

However, it’s not clear how Brexit and the UK leaving EASA will affect the implementation of the online exams which will replace certain existing paper-based exams.

“We will initially be undertaking a three-month pathfinder phase with 20 training schools,” said the CAA. “The timeline for implementation cannot be confirmed at this time.”

The CAA is encouraging flying schools to direct their PPL candidates that are looking to take exams to first register for an account on the CAA portal.

“When doing this they should select ‘Private pilot theoretical knowledge e-exams’ as the service required. This registration has a short lead time of a few days but needs only to be done once.”
