New squawks for Manchester

Next month (from the 23rd November) two other new squawks are expected to come in: 7300 – when you’re flying in a circuit (although that may change if one of our contributors has his way); and 7401 when you’re talking to London Information. More news closer to the time, but a 7401 AIC has already been published
A trial is under way around the Manchester CTR, where any aircraft which is flying within five miles of the CTR – but, of course, not in it – and which is monitoring Manchester Approach on 135.0 on a ‘listening watch’ is being asked to squawk 7366 (mode C, if possible). Note that you don’t have to call or contact Manchester approach before setting the squawk.

This will indicate to controllers that you are listening in, and they can contact you if the need arises; however, it doesn’t mean that you are recieving a formal service, nor that you can enter the controlled airspace.

The Manchester Low Level corridor is included in this trial.

Remember, when you move further away from the CTR or move to a different frequency, to return your transponder to 7000.

The trial started yesterday (23rd October). The Notam for it:
