Miles Whitney Straight

They don’t much more elegant than this Whitney Straight, a beautiful machine produced in 1937 by British manufacturer Miles Aircraft.

We featured G-AERV; the last airworthy example of two known to exist, in FLYER September 2012. Flight tester Mark Hales remarked that its style of progress is very much of the period – an aeroplane to be flown, rather than travelled in.

They don’t make them like this anymore…

  1. And to think that Miles in 9 years would have flown the first 1000mph jet aircraft, the M52 in 1946 if not cancelled at 90% complete by a stupid Labour government, who gave it all away to the US plus jet technology to the Russians.
