Microlights fly under bridge

Two Spanish microlight pilots have received a ‘severe warning’ for flying under Ballachulish Bridge, between Fort William and Glencoe.

The pair were part of a group of five Spanish pilots flying from Inverness to Oban as part of a week-long trip around Europe when the incident occured on Wednesday evening (July 2).

They were traced to Connel Airport, near Oban, and taken to Fort William police station yesterday, where they were interviewed by Northern Police and subsequently received the reprimand following discussions with the CAA and the local Procurator Fiscal.

This is the third report of flying under bridges in Scotland in the last three weeks. A helicopter was claimed to have flown under the Skye Bridge twice on successive days last month.
