Man survives prop strike

The Canadian cnews website is reporting the story of a man who has survived being struck by a spinning properller.

The accident happened when the 50-year-old man was helping a pilot to taxi his Cessna 150 “from a church in the village [of Kleefeld, near Winnipeg in Canada] to his property nearby” when the victim walked ahead of the aircraft. He was intending to stop traffic on the road the Cessna was about to cross, but was also checking that the wing was going to clear his vehicle, when he walked in front of the propeller.

The man suffered ‘non-life threatening upper-body injuries — a dislocated right shoulder and lacerations to his right side’ and will be spending some time in hospital.

It’s good to know that such accidents are surviveable – but it’s also a reminder that if you’re having people help you taxi, they should briefed in depth on the dangers of a spinning prop.
