Liberty XL2 gets FAA IFR approval

Liberty Aerospace, manufacturer of the XL2 single-engine aircraft, has now received FAA approval for its XL2 aircraft to operate under Instrument Flight Rules.

According to Liberty President and CEO Anthony Tiarks,’Receiving IFR certification for the XL2 is another milestone in the history of a remarkable aircraft. Deliveries to customers can now begin and we will be focusing the company on production to meet our delivery schedule.’

The Liberty XL2 aircraft has been designed to meet the growing demand for a new generation, advanced two seat aircraft. It is the only production aircraft powered by a piston engine equipped with a full authority digital engine control (FADEC) which simplifies power management and provides greatly increased levels of safety, reliability and maintainability.

The Liberty XL2 also features a carbon fibre composite fuselage, a wide 48-inch cabin and cruise speeds of up to 132 knots (150 mph), burning only 5.5 gallons per hour. Base price of the aircraft is $139,900. Customer deliveries will begin this summer.

The XL2 is certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration under Part 23, and several foreign certifications are scheduled for 2005.
