Leicester Air Race starts the racing season

The Royal Aero Club Air Racing Team began the season at Leicester Airport on the weekend of the 13-14 April, those taking part competing for the Bev Snook Memorial Trophy on the Saturday and the City Livery Trophy on the Sunday.
Tim Wassell (pictured) won both races in his Cessna 172 (the oldest in the UK). His navigator was Ali Allan.
Martin Gosling took second place on the Saturday and Sunday in his Robin 400 and third place was taken by Dan Pangbourne with navigator David Pangbourne in their Grumman AA5 on the Saturday and Neil Cooper in his Bulldogvwith navigator Ian Cooper on the Sunday City Livery race.
The race saw 12 aircraft compete from a Cessna 150 to an RV-7.
