Kemble secures future of G-VFWE

Kemble Air Services – based at Kemble Airfield in Gloucestershire – has secured the future of the Great Vintage Flying Weekend. The G-VFWE, as it’s known, had been a staple part of the British flying scene for many years, until its cancellation this year due to a lack of backers.

The event will now become part of Kemble’s annual programme. “I’m simply delighted that, after literally years of discussions, we’ve finally managed to secure a future for G-VFWE,” said former organiser and operations Manager Terry Booker.

The G-VFWE has been staged at Kemble a number of times before – the last was in 2003 – and the airport is so excited about having the Weekend back that it has extended its own Open Day in September to include the Saturday as well as the originally planned Sunday. G-VFWE members will be invited to fly in on the Saturday.

Glen Moreman, the airfield’s event manager, highlighted the following points in a brief statement on behalf of the new owners. “We are naturally very pleased to have acquired this high profile event. It will fit in very well with our existing plans and, with Terry and his team continuing to assist in the staging, we are really looking forward to once again hosting this ‘cream of the classics’ ”

There will inevitably be a few changes to the operational aspect of the event including a possible move to a later in the season staging date. Kemble expects to have more details to hand in the next few weeks and all the latest information will be available on the G-VFWE website.
