Fossett search reopens

Nearly a year after he first disappeared, and five months after he was officially declared dead, a team of ‘elite athletes and expert mountaineers’ has resumed the search in the area around the farm near Yerington where Fossett took off for his last flight.

The team, being led by adventure racer Simon Donato is planning to note very carefully the area which it searches looking for wreckage (Donato concedes that he and his team are there on the premise that Fossett is dead), concentrating on wooded areas which would have been difficult to explore previously. The team – which is an unofficial one, and whose members are said to be paying their own way – expects to cover about 20 miles a day.

Once his team has finished searching an area, says Donato, future searches will not need to re-explore those areas.

A similar expedition is reported to be starting a search in August, searching a different area.
