Forget the bacon sandwich...

Traditionally, pilots who want to go flying but have no particular agenda visit an airfield “for a bacon sandwich”. Well, at the Aeroport du Castellet in the South of France you can go one better. The Aeroport now has a caviar shop, from which you can buy… caviar. And “chocolate pearls” (described as ‘aromatised with Premium Petrossian Vodka’) and Tianouchkis, the famous Russian caramels.

The Petrossian Caviar Shop will also sell the new EggXiting selection, “to be enjoyed and savoured during your flight”, they tell us.

Castellet bills itself as the “most VIP airport in the world”, and reports are that it is indeed somewhat plush (it was rebuilt in 2001). IThe apron is usually full of bizjets, but it’s open to light aircraft, too. Runway is 13/31; avgas available.
