Expedition Global Eagle washed out

Warrant Officer Barry Jones attempt to fly an an autogyro to Australia has been abandoned.

Expedition Global Eagle stalled in India after the heavy monsoons forced a re-appraisal of the world record attempt.

Barry and the team returned to the UK with the intention of resuming a revised trip to Australia in late September.

Arriving back in India the team discovered that following several weeks on the ground in Guwahati it was evident that the aircraft had spent sometime submerged in water.

Flooding had damaged the transponder, radio’s and all the instruments. It was felt that the airframe required close examination along with the flying controls and most of the control cables need replacing.

This combined with the requirement for the team to return to their regular military duties early in 2005 meant the attempt had to be abandoned.
