Euro insurance requirements

We’re not natural Euro bashers in the FLYER office, but news of draft EU legislation to make it mandatory for all aeroplanes (except microlights and sailplanes) to carry £68 (yup that’s ‘million’) worth of third party insurance does seem, well, bonkers.

AOPA UK did a little research and they tell us that the premium for such insurance would be somewhere in the region of £7500 pa for a C172, plus of course an extra few hundred per passenger
seat. AOPA tell us it is on the case and would like to hear your views on the above.
