A unique opportunity to explore the hallowed Shuttleworth Collection engineering workshops. Hosted by Deputy Chief Engineer and Shuttleworth veteran of 52 years, Andy Preslent.

The Collection’s engineers operate, maintain, rebuild and restore a diverse, world-class collection of working vehicles, aircraft, steam and agricultural equipment. During our Open Workshop, our experts are on hand to show and explain their unique work.

Some of the unique insights to be gained during the weekend:

  • How our engineers keep everything, from the world’s oldest airworthy aeroplane to a WWII Supermarine Spitfire and its mighty Merlin engine flying
  • Learn how a piston engine works
  • Find out about the fuel and oil we use, and how we obtain it
  • Explore how a 120-year-old car is built, or how to ride a 150-year-old bicycle
  • An opportunity to ask questions to our uniquely skilled and experienced teams
  • Enjoy working demonstrations of steam, cars, bikes and aircraft (weather permitting)

*Please note* This is not a guided tour, but instead a chance for you to explore the workshop in your own time.

In the Engineering Workshop, try your hand at:

  • Wing rib construction
  • STIXX fuselage construction
  • Wire locking
  • Tapping & Dieing
