Cardiff/Bristol airspace changes

A major expansion to the controlled airspace in the vicinity of both Bristol and Cardiff airports is planned for early next year. This change is being described as probably the largest ever in the southwest below FL95 with the exception of the current airways structure. The process is currently at the regulatory consultation stage with the National Air Traffic Services Management Committee and a decision is expected just before Christmas.
The new airspace will be class D throughout and a central plank of the application has been that access will be afforded to all, subject to the overall safety of commercial and GA operations.
If approved it is expected to be implemented on 16th March 2006.
