Britain's Alan Cassidy wins FAI medal

Britain’s Alan Cassidy has been presented with a Silver Medal by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) at its annual General Conference, held in Bali, Indonesia at the weekend.

Alan’s award was for “Major involvement in FAI and aerobatics as, among others, competitor, jury member, commission member, chairman, advisor, coach and instructor.”

Alan, centre in photo above, won the British National Aerobatic Championship in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2003, and also competed in seven world championships. He now runs Freestyle Aviation, teaching aerobatics, and was awarded an MBE in 2010.

Other Brits recognised in the FAI awards are:

  • Wyn Morgan of the British Balloon and Airship Club
  • Mark Morgan of the British Hanggliding and Paragliding Association
  • Philip Cozens of the Light Aircraft Association
  • David and Rick Bremner and Theo Wilford (LAA).

Other winners included:

  • Alberto Rodolfo Porto (Italy) For the World Record of 323.82 km/h as speed over a straight course on 16 December 2015, together with Sara Della Moretta
  • Gennadi Ivanovich Padalka (Russia) For the World Record of 878 days 11h 29 min 24 sec as Accumulated space flight time on 12 September 2015
  • Lyudmila Kosenkova (Russia) For her outstanding achievement in Rotorcraft, especially as an Active Member of the Russian national team.

New president
Frits Brink from the Netherlands was elected yesterday as the new president of FAI. Brink, 70, succeeds Dr John Grubbstrum who stepped down after serving the maximum number of three terms.
