Bodmin bounces back with 2021 events

Bodmin Airfield

Bodmin Airfield events organiser Pete White, ever the optimist, has issued a full calendar of events at the Cornwall airfield for 2021. Other airfields are encouraged to let FLYER know of their events for inclusion in our online what’s on section.

Bodmin’s list kicks off on a positive note with a New Year Fly-in. If you are a club or airfield organiser let us know of your events here: https://www.flyer.co.uk/submit-event/

Bodmin Airfield 2021 Calendar

1 January New Year’s Day Fly-in.  A new start for us all…

25-26 March Artists in residence: Flights of Fancy, with Sally Crabtree & Laura Frances Martin. Our two guests will be staying at Bodmin Airfield for two days and witnessing the activities and looking for inspiration for extra material to be used for the special ‘Words on the Wing’ performance on 24 July 24.

24 April Wing Walking Day with more dates to come later…

8 May Ladies Day Fly-in. A great opportunity to promote the joys of flight to all but it is especially a celebration of all ladies in aviation.

23 May Light Aircraft Association – LAA Tour of UK. The round Britain tour will call into Bodmin Airfield on Sunday and use it as a night stop.

5 June Action Stations – Military themed Wings & Wheels (D-Day).

3-4 July Kernow Trophy Aerobatic Competition. A very welcome return of this competition to Bodmin Airfield, please contact Howard Fawkes for details on 07803 128000.

24-25 July The Vintage Aircraft Club Weekend at Bodmin Airfield. The VAC are our weekend guests and the Saturday evening entertainment is ‘Words On The Wing’ with poetry and music in Hangar 2.

1 August Lundy Sunday – Fly Out to the magic island. PPR booking is essential. Contact Pete White 01752 406660 or 07805 805679.

14-15 August Harrowbeer 80 (at Harrowbeer Airfield).

11 September Cornwall Strut Fly-in. Fast becoming a busy and successful event…come and join us in 2021.

“We will also be offering vintage flights around Cornwall by the Tiger Moths of TMT at various weekends during the year plus a new addition to our airfield, a US Army marked 1937 Boeing Stearman biplane,” said Pete White. “The Stearman will be available to book for introductory flights and to enjoy scenic Cornish countryside.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first half of 2021 will be kept free of indoor gatherings, for instance the aero club talks. They are planned to resume in the autumn. From January to April we will be looking at holding monthly Zoom meetings with guest speakers, more later.

“We were unable to hold any scout aerocamps or charity flying events for children or adults during 2020 and we await for the pandemic circumstances to improve before releasing any plans for 2021.”
