<span style=”font-size:9px; font-weight:bold; color:gray”>From our team at AOPA Expo in Palm Springs</span>
FAA administrator Marion Blakey addressed a hall packed with pilots at AOPA Expo today. We’ve listened to more than our fair share of politicians and regulators, but Blakey’s positive outlook is one that we could do with adopting in the UK.
Amongst other things Blakey noted that this year’s fatal accident statistics are the lowest ever recorded, and that much of the improvement came from the personal aviation arena. There was a refreshing commitment by the FAA to ensure that GA enjoyed access to all of the nation’s airports and a pledge from the authority to fight any proposed airport closures.
The next generation of technology will deliver WAAS approaches (where GPS is also used to provide precision vertical guidance), with the FAA committing to producing 300 approaches a year.
Way to go, as they are fond of saying in the colonies.
