Airlines optimistic on pilot jobs

British airlines are optimistic about recruitment and expansion over the coming year but there is concern about a growing shortage of experienced pilots. At a recent conference sponsored by the British Airline Pilots Association almost every airline predicted growth in the coming year and spoke about opportunities for First Officers.
But there was also concern about a shortage of Captains, voiced by Captain Nick Hayter of Channel Express/Jet2.com. ‘It seems we are all faced with this problem of finding experienced captains,’ he said. His concern was echoed by many others. As the industry grows pilot supply is expected to become a problem. BALPA is currently looking at the whole issue of pilot training and career progression.’
FLYER’S Professional Flight Training Show, to be held on November 19th at the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel will for the first time host two airline question & answer based seminars. Each of the seminars, chaired by Peter Moxham, will consist of a panel of pilot recruitment managers representing airlines with a record for recruiting low hour/frozen ATPL pilots.
