Medical certificates
JAR class 2 medical replaces CAA class 3 at next renewal with validity periods of:

  • 5 years to age 30
  • 2 years age 30-49
  • 1 year age 50 on

Certificate of Revalidation
Certificate of Revalidation replaced Certificate of Experience and is valid for 12 months.

Passengers
To carry passengers, you must have made at least 3 take offs and landings in the last 90 days as handling pilot in multi piston aircraft. Take offs and landings in aircraft of other classes (eg singles) cannot be counted.

Differences training
You must have undertaken differences training with a qualified instructor and have it recorded in your log book (or have grandfather rights) for each type of multi engined aircraft you fly. Grandfather rights apply to pilots who have flown the aircraft type prior to 1/1/2000.

If you have not flown the type for 24 months, you must redo differences training with a qualified instructor and have it recorded in your log book. Performing an annual proficiency check on type will also suffice.

IMC rating
IMC rating valid for 25 months from initial test or renewal.

Carrying passengers at night
To carry passengers at night, at least one of the take offs and landings required in the last 90 days (see above) must have been made at night (as handling pilot in multi engined piston aircraft).

R e v a l i d a t i o n
To obtain a certificate of revalidation, you must have met the following requirements:

You must undergo a proficiency check with an examiner in the 3 months prior to expiry of the existing certificate. You must also have completed 10 route sectors in multi piston engined aircraft in the period of validity of the existing certificate or complete one sector with an examiner, which can be undertaken as part of the proficiency check. (A route sector is defined as a take off, departure, cruise of 15 minutes or more, arrival and landing).

Note: all time scales are by reference to the expiry date of the existing certificate, not the date of signing of the new certificate.

Information correct on 01/02/2000.
