16 Learning From The Airlines, Wellesbourne Mountford. Following on from his article 'Learning from the Airlines' in the November issue of FLYER about how GA pilots can adapt airline operating procedures to make their own private flying safer, Jon Cooke has been invited to present at the On-Track Aviation Safety Evening at Wellesbourne on 16th February 2012. The theme of the presentation will be Single Pilot CRM, with tips and advice on how you can improve your flying. On-Track Aviation Limited are sponsoring the Safety Evening at their home aerodrome of Wellesbourne Mountford, near Stratford-Upon-Avon. The Safety Evening is planned to last approx 2 hours and will cover a variety of topics of interest to both students and licence holders. 10 CAA Olympic Airspace Briefing Day, Royal Geographical Society, London. To help pilots prepare for flying in south east England during the 2012 London Olympics the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), through the Airspace and Safety Initiative (ASI), have joined forces to host a free briefing day in central London on Saturday 10 March 2012. 17 CTC Wings Open Day, Crew Training Centre, Nursling. This leading FTO's Open Day provides an opportunity for anyone considering a career as an airline pilot to visit this Full Flight Simulator Centre and gain an insight into what is involved. 09-10 LAA/RSA 65th Celebration , Duxford and St Omer. To celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the LAA and its French counterpart, the RSA, there will be a Duxford Bonus Day themed on the LAA - visitors can take advantage of a low-cost landing fee and museum admission. Around 50 aircraft are expected to fly in from France. 15-16 The British Aerobatic Association at Compton, Compton Abbas. Every year the British Aerobatic Association holds the Don Henry Squadron competition at Compton. Some of the best aerobatic pilots in the UK compete on both Friday and Saturday for the prestigious Don Henry award. Pilots: Those that aren’t competing – you are still more than welcome to pop in. 15-17 Rallye of Cognac, Cognac, France. The 39th Rallye of Cognac gathers pilots coming from all Europe, it is traditionnaly planed with flying tests, touristic tours and of course, initiation and degustation of Cognac. 08-12 Sloane Helicopters - WRC Catalunya Tour, Catalunya. Thursday 8th November – depart Son Bonet in the morning and fly to the WRC Staging Base in Tarragona. We need special permits for the WRC Catalunya to be part of the official helicopter fleet; this will enable us to fly to all and every stage during the race and land at each location to watch the stages. This means a lot of short flights involving confined area departures and arrivals in the area. The last day of the WRC is the Sunday, with the celebrations after the races. We would over night on the Sunday and depart on the Monday. We will be staying in the WRC compound and hotels. Monday 12th November – depart Tarragona to Son Bonet. Total Flying Time: 7 Hours. 10-11 Sloane Helicopters - MotoGP Valencia Tour, Valencia. Saturday 10th November – Depart Son Bonet early morning, fly to a local site, 20nm from Valencia. Due to local restrictions helicopters are not permitted to operate within 20 nm of the race course! Private transportation will be arranged to take us to the track to watch the qualifying, then overnight in hotel near Valencia. Sunday 11th November – watch Motogp Valencia. As it is November there is insufficient daylight to return to Son Bonet on the Sunday, so we will overnight in Valencia.
