Cabro Aviation is first FTO in PROUD scheme

Aberdeen-based Cabro Aviation is the first flight training organisation to join the CAA’s Pilot Recognition for Operational Up-skilling and Development (PROUD) initiative. Cabro’s Flight Achievement Recognition Scheme (FARS) encourages pilots to continue to develop their skills after gaining their PPL in a logical and structured way.

Cabro’s Alan Stewart told FLYER, “Our FARS scheme is based on our existing awards where, when you achieve a milestone, you get a glass award. For example, first solo, first cross country and then one when you get a licence.

“We built on this and have a tier system for P1 hours. As you gain P1 hours you get awards based on passing that milestone. On the navigation side, we have developed some navigational challenges building up experience for pilots to travel away from Aberdeen to the Highlands and Islands.

“In addition, we have agreements for landing at a number of airfields in Scotland. When a pilot visits them all they will get an award.”

Alan continued, “We operate at a busy International airport and a busy heliport. This gives students the added challenge of flying out to quieter licenced or unlicensed airfields.”

Cabro Aviation started flight training in 2011 to support GA which had all but died at Aberdeen. “We had quite a job convincing the airport we weren’t going to be just another flying club that will run for a few months and shut down,” said Alan. “Come 16 January, we will be 5 years old!”
